Advanced High-Definition System

  1. Basic Features and Configurations:

The CMS Advanced High-Definition System (AHDS) has the following most important Features:

    1. A High-Definition Television:

The AHDS is a high-definition television (HDTV) which is a subset of the DTV systems. With a build-in ATSC & NTSC tuner this system can receive all the territorial ATSC broadcastings as well as NTSC broadcastings in the American continent. This system can handle the DTV formats defined by the ATSC as follows:

The AHDS is a true All-in-One system. This system has a build-in high-resolution LCD display that can be configured as follows:

Display Size: Resolution: Color Depth: Refresh Rate:

    Economic Configuration: 17" - 19" 1280x1024 32bit 70Hz

    Standard Configuration: 20" - 21" 1600x1200 32bit 75Hz

    Ergonomic Configuration: 24"- 30" 1920x1440 32bit 75Hz

The AHDS can drive a NTSC TV or an additional high-resolution display (resolution up to 2048x1536). That means this system can be configured as a multi-display system.

The AHDS can be configured as a Personal-Video-Recorder (PVR). One can record up to 100 hours of normal NTSC TV programs or up to 20 hours of ATSC HDTV programs while watching the TV programs.

The AHDS can be easily configured to receive and display the EU’s DVB-T DTV broadcastings as well as other standards when equipped with a multi-standard tuner and new software configurations.

The AHDS can also be configured to receive satellite broadcastings by adding a satellite dish, a down-converter and new software configurations (under development – currently limited to be used in the USA).

  1. A Home Entertainment System:

In additional to feature of being a HDTV, the AHDS incorporates all (or more of) the features of a high-end home entertainment system as follows:

1). DVD Player – this system has a build-in 16X DVD player which can play back

all DVD formats in high-resolution mode (at least 1280x1024).

2). CD & MP3 Player – this system can play all the CD and MP3 formats in

    professional Hi-Fi quality.

3). Karaoky Player – with a build-in software mixer, this system can be configured as a Karaoky system.

4). Digital A/V Recorder – with a build-in multi-media system, this system can record/capture audio & video in all form of digital formats (HDTV programs, MPEG2/4 video streams, 24bit SPDIF, AC97, AC3, etc.).

5). Dolby Surround Sound System – this system can playback all Dolby Digital formats and drive 5.1 and 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound speaker systems.

6). Video-on-Demand Center – this system can play back hundred of the pre-recorded DVD and HDTV programs on demand.

  2. High-Definition Game Console:

With a high-speed CPU (e.g. an Intel dual-core D950) and a high-end graphic card (e.g. ATI Radeon X1900), the CMS Advanced High-Definition System (AHDS) can be used as a high-end game console. One can enjoy playing thousands of 3D games available in the market.

With a build-in high-speed Internet access interface (see 4. Below), one can play

interactive Internet games with other players on the Internet.

  3. Home Information System:

With a minimum fee ($14.99 per month in US) subscription to the DSL or Cable Modem services, one can have the access to the Internet. Once connected to the Internet, the CMS Advanced High-Definition System (AHDS) can be used as a home information system to surf the Internet to obtain billions of valuable information.

With an video camera (optional), the CMS Advanced High-Definition System (AHDS) can serve as a IP video conferencing system.

  4. Computer System:

The AHDS is in nature a scalable high-power computer system which can be configure as a workstation equipped with up to 4GB dual channel DDR2 memory, a Dual-Core, Hyper-threading CPU such as the Intel D955 and an ATI Radeon X1900 high-end graphics card. One can perform a real-time HD video rendering or a CAD design with no delay.

  5. Multimedia System:

The AHDS has a build-in X16 DVD burner, 8 USB2 ports, 2 optional 1394 Firewire ports, a SPDIF digital audio ports, 6 channel analog audio out, one additional, optional VGA/DVI video port and one optional 8-in-one card reader. Therefore, this system is a true multimedia system. One can enjoy the digital and analog audio, photo and video download, upload and editing. A professional can perform HD audio and video editing and encoding in real-time.

  1. Compact and Portable Design:

AHDS is a true All-in-One system (only a power cord attached!) with the dimension measured as: 53cm (W) x 40cm (H) x 6.8cm (D) for the badsic 19" LCD configuration and weighs only about 8Kg. With the stand removed, this system can be hung on the wall as a picture frame. With such compactness, this system can be installed in cars, bus or fishing boats for mobile applications such as GPS, wireless Internet access and mobile entertainment.

  2. Scalable and Expandable Design:

The AHDS can be scaled from a low-end Celeron D Intel CUP to a very powerful Intel Dual-Core, Hyper-Threading D840/955 depending on the application requirements. And this system can be expanded from a personal entertainment system or game console to a very powerful professional high-definition workstation.

  3. Easy-to-Upgrade and Flexible-Configuration Design:

The designer (a 25-year PC user) of the CMS Advanced High-Definition System (AHDS) has figured it out that such system has to cover a broad range of applications so that the entire system must be easily upgraded and configured. Therefore, the mechanical design of such system guarantees any of the upgradable components such as CPU, memory, HD, graphics cards and TV tuners can be removed and replaced easily (with 5 minutes) and the configuration can be done automatically by using plug-and-play components and operating systems such as Windows XP .

  4. High-End but Low Cost Design:

The designer of The CMS Advanced High-Definition System (AHDS) has the concept in mind that such system must be feature-rich, powerful, but low cost. By using all the PC industrial standard high-quality components, the designer has come up with a high-end system with low cost. Detail pricing information is available upon request-for-quotation.

  5. User Friendly and Ergonomic Design:

The AHDS is user friendly. The only thing a user has to do is to plug in a power cord and push the on/off switch; then the system will power up. The DVD player has a slot construction and is located at the right edge of the frame so that a CD/DVD can be easily inserted with no problem. The two HiFi speakers are installed side-by-side to the LCD panel so that the sound effect is direct and superior. The user can enjoy the HDTV/DVD in-front of this system for hours without tiring. An optional build-in 8-in-one card reader provides the user an easy way to up-load and download digital photos.

  6. Space and Power Saving Design:

The compact and All-in-One features of the AHDS save the user a lot space and the PFC (power factor correction) feature of the power supply design guarantees the system to meet the CE and other international requirements.

  7. Design of the Future – A Few Words from the Designer:

The AHDS is a true All-in-One Advanced High-Definition System that incorporates all features of 6 systems: High-Definition TV, Home Entertainment, Gaming, Home Information, Computer & Multimedia. Also, such system is scalable, expendable, compact and user-friendly and finally energy-saving. With the dropping price of most of the PC industrial standard components, this system can be built with low cost. In addition, the modular design of the mechanical parts ensures easy assembly of such system so that Do-it-Yourself can be done with little effort (the designer still remembers the first time he built an IBM compatible PC system 23 years ago, which took him more than 6 hours and costed more than $1,000 even ithout a monitor!). The designer foresees that such system will replace all the current desktop computers and every household will have such system in the near future (in 5 years or shorter!)
